The Indian Music Academy Hall of Fame honoured Asha Bhonsle among the five chosen luminaries, Balamuralikrishna, Hindustani Classical Singer Girija Devi, Illayaraja, and Ali Akbar Khan. She was honoured by our President Abdul Kalam at a function in New Delhi on Monday, 9th April 2007, to mark the second year of the Indian Music Academy.

A delayed airflight from Indore had our hearts doing a double flip at the filmfare awards night. Would she make int in time to receive the Special Award for her inspired renditions of the songs – Tanha Tanha and Rangeela re?
Although Asha Bhosle announced her retirement from the Filmfare awards, and though this fact is known to the readers of the magazine, they still voted for the superstar singer in overwhelming numbers.

She’s been widowed twice. And the tragedies have taken their toll. Asha Bhosle broke down, at the Filmfare wards function on February 12, just a month and eighty days after the sudden passing away of her husband. She announced the R.D.Burman award to be given to the best debutant music composer, from next year. Today, she looks much leaner and her trademark laughter and wit are missing. She’s with her grand-daughter, listening quietly to the little one’s non-stop patter. And you can’t help asking…
