Interview after a special award

A delayed airflight from Indore had our hearts doing a double flip at the filmfare awards night. Would she make int in time to receive the Special Award for her inspired renditions of the songs – Tanha Tanha and Rangeela re?

Although Asha Bhosle announced her retirement from the Filmfare awards, and though this fact is known to the readers of the magazine, they still voted for the superstar singer in overwhelming numbers.

A Day After

She’s been widowed twice. And the tragedies have taken their toll. Asha Bhosle broke down, at the Filmfare wards function on February 12, just a month and eighty days after the sudden passing away of her husband. She announced the R.D.Burman award to be given to the best debutant music composer, from next year. Today, she looks much leaner and her trademark laughter and wit are missing. She’s with her grand-daughter, listening quietly to the little one’s non-stop patter. And you can’t help asking…

Asha Bhonsle’s is ‘the’voice with aptitude-ebullient, inimitable, dynamic and supreme-easily making her a world-renowned singer in the Indian film industry. "Today’s music is just to see, not to hear. I mean it is all cleavage and loud blaring rhythm that we get to see on our satellite channels. Gone are the days when veterans like Naushad, C.Rmamachandra, Chitragupta, Madan Mohan, Khayam, S.D.Burman and R.D.Burman to name a few had the real zest for defining music in their films. Nowadays, there’s nothing much that is meaningful and valuable to be witnessed," Asha said at a press conference held yesterday at the Safir International.
